The majority of our global clients have adopted eLearning practices to reach their multinational audiences, inside and outside their own teams. Localizing their eLearning content has proven to be key when strategizing on how to achieve this.
Having worked with the likes of Google, DHL, Mondelez and many more on various eLearning projects, we have gathered valuable experience with adapting eLearning content across various platforms and in diverse formats. This requires extensive knowledge of the most common software for compiling and creating eLearning materials, including Articulate Storyline and Adobe Captivate.
Within eLearning modules, we usually find content across various mediums as well. With video-based learning or video content within a larger eLearning project, we work on adapting every detail to each specific target audience. For example, when working on Google’s initiative CS First, we strategized an efficient way to localize an explainer video for countries all around the world. Our team came up with an effective solution – creating a template character for the video to replace live actors. Although the character is adaptable, the Android “character template” is essentially the same, strengthening the recognizability of the e-learning programme, whilst ensuring that the users can relate to the localized animations according to cultural and local specificities. The project required a range of video software for screen capturing as well, such as ScreenFlow and Final Cut Pro.
When localizing full eLearning modules, we also look into optimizing the workflow. This means utilizing Translation Memories (TMs) and terminology management, which ensure linguistic consistency across all languages, as well as reducing the cost of translation. A project, which benefited from such optimization, was a large volume job submitted by DHL Supply Chain. It required the adaptation of various documents – from slides and leaflets, to interactive internal eLearning materials. Using all the technological tools at hand, as well as our in-house Quality Assurance experts, proved useful and efficient, not only for the client, but also for our internal processes.
Our holistic approach to internationalizing eLearning in all its forms has proven effective on many occasions and is constantly evolving. We are always looking into new ways to accommodate our clients’ individual needs.
