Using the i plus “translate online” component to share memories between internal and external translators.
We’re pleased to announce the latest enhancement to our i plus translation management system, in the form of an advanced translate online component.
This revolutionary functionality is designed for clients who may choose to have some of their content translated “internally”, by dedicated in-house translators, country marketing managers, or other employees with the relevant language skills, while also outsourcing part of their translation requirements.
In such scenarios it is often the case that while translate plus will always use translation memory as a standard part of the process, the internal translator resources do not have this technology available to them, for reasons of cost limitations, training requirements or IT restrictions. As a result, inconsistent translations can creep in, because the internal translator might not know how a sentence has been translated previously – something which by definition translation memory is designed to do – and might therefore provide a slightly different translation, thereby diluting brand messaging or clarity. And if text has already been translated internally but not entered into a translation memory, the client may inadvertently pay the full rate for something which could have been heavily discounted.
That’s where translate online comes in. In an easy-to-use web interface, requiring no desktop installation and which can be used on any system, including Macs and tablets, internal translators can work on any file format while benefiting from the use of translation memory, safe in the knowledge that if we have translated something before, they will see it, and that once they have completed their work, the translations will immediately be available to translate plus, and their colleagues, via the translation memory.
Support for live previewing (including for Adobe InDesign files), adding comments, match-based colour coding, and re-routing of translation tasks to other translators – along with all the customisable access-level permissions which come with i plus – all adds up to the fact that the translate online component is the easiest-to-use and most cost-effective solution for clients with a mix of internal and external translation processes.
