February, the month of love and pride

“I think… if it is true that
there are as many minds as there
are heads, then there are as many
kinds of love as there are hearts.”

~ Leo Tolstoy, ‘Anna Karenina’

February is the month of love, not just because of St. Valentine’s Day, but also because it is the time when LGBTQ+ History is honoured in the UK. This annual month-long event aims to raise awareness of and combat prejudice against the LGBTQ+ community, whilst celebrating its achievements – though of course, this should not be confined to just one month.

This month, the USA also celebrates Black History and the civil rights and achievements of the black community. In America, this event is taking place in February rather than in October (which is the case for the UK) as it is the birth month of two important figures with a major contribution to African American liberation, Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass.

We should never forget that words and language have an unparalleled power to express thoughts, true feelings and opinions. We should always be mindful of that power and use it to inspire change, promote inclusion and treat everyone with equal respect and love at all times.

At translate plus, we’re honouring the inspiring histories of the LGBTQ+ and black communities by changing the colours of our new logo for this month.
