Translating song lyrics: when music artists translate their own recordings

French poet and inventor, Charles Cross is remembered as the earliest inventor of a sound recording and reproduction machine. That being said, the first practical sound recording and reproduction device patented, was Thomas Edison’s mechanical phonograph cylinder in 1878.

Today, we have CDs and digital downloads. We watch music videos and attend gigs and festivals. The music industry is now worth around £12.2 billion, music artists are beloved and have fans all over the world. So adored are they that sometimes these performers need to translate their own music in order to satisfy their foreign devotees. Below, translate plus have picked some of our favourite songs that have been re-recorded in a second language by the original artists themselves.
