Launching design plus

design+100x111We are proud to unleash our latest and most powerful tool to date, from the award winning translate plus software suite.

This new system uses the latest technologies to allow you to edit text directly in InDesign files from your web browser, with no need to install InDesign on your computer. This is fantastic in many ways; above all because it saves you from investing in expensive InDesign licenses – I am sure you have much better things to spend your money on! Text based manipulation is ideal if you require text to be reviewed and changed within the InDesign file without anyone interfering with the look; the design of the document can be seen but not touched!

As the person responsible for overseeing the development and infrastructure of our new web application, it has been a great opportunity to play around with all the great features that InDesignServer has to offer. Setting up the server did feel slightly trickier than I had expected, however once it is running as a service the possibilities are endless!

Looking back over the project, some of the highlights include: the first time we got the text to update on screen and then saving it back to the InDesign file; being able to upload fonts to the server; and creating the ability to track the changes within the browser between different versions of the document (which, by the way, is great for version control).

It really has been a fantastic project to be involved in and it is wonderful to see how our own development team has been able to integrate these systems into our extranet. We very much look forward to adding additions to design plus to meet our clients’ specific needs. While design plus is already great as it is, we know that our clients will have a lot of individual requirements specific only to them. When it comes to tailoring software to meet individual needs, we at translate plus make the biggest difference, as there is never a “one size fits all” solution!
